The big department store (grand magasin) always has beautiful window displays and these are no exception: the ideas, the colours...
I could have stayed all day taking photos but I was waiting for bus no. 66 to go home. I must go back and take more photos.
Apparently colours and patterns are in fashion (à la mode) this summer.

APRIL IN PARIS
By carolweb on Wednesday, April 25 2012,
This photo is typical of my stay in April. After the hot weather in March which I wasn't prepared for, rain and cold, which I wasn't prepared for either (non plus)! I didn't have my winter coat (manteau) and I was cold. I took this photo from inside a bus.
This is the queue in front of Orsay museum; I climbed on a wall (grimpé sur un mur) to try and photograph the umbrellas (parapluies) from the top. Fortunately (heureusement) I had a ticket so I didn't have to queue, I don't know how the people have the patience, especially in the rain.

5 FEATURED
By carolweb on Sunday, April 15 2012, - redbubble
I'm so proud at the end of this week:there are 4/5 redbubble groups featuring my photos at the same time and the person I admire most favourited one of mine.
Here is one I love today, I put it in the 'in between' group and the 'Miksang' group.
The title is 'It caught my eye'. It was really by chance, so it is a true Miksang photo - most of them are in fact, except the ones that are obviously made by me, like the egg on the plate ones.

MIKSANG PHOTOGRAPHY
By carolweb on Friday, April 13 2012,
I discovered something new today - and someone - by following a photo of eggs I liked on REDBUBBLE.COM
I have been photographing eggs recently and was intrigued by this one; I have a lot of squares and patterns at home and never thought of putting my eggs on the floor (sol)
I went to see the person's profile and really loved her photos, especially the ones in her 365 ONE A DAY PROJECT
I read she was host of a group called MIKSANG PHOTOGRAPHY so I clicked to see what it was about.
Revelation, this puts a name to what I am doing with my camera. Here's what another adept says:
" I find great pleasure and satisfaction in noticing shapes (formes) and colors which might seem insignificant to a rational, judgmental mind (esprit). Instead they are incredibly enriching and magnetizing to a relaxed and non-judgmental, open mind and especially open eyes! It is refreshing to be able to be enchanted by the daily life reality of even trashbags (poubelles) or towels (serviettes de toilette), curtains (rideaux), dishes (plats), windows, sidewalks (trottoirs), the sky, a wall or anything else (autre chose) which one might see through the experience of a flash of perception--free from preoccupations with good or bad or neutral."
I joined the group and went out with my camera.
"This is done by becoming aware of things in your environment that catch your eye and then taking a photograph of exactly what your flash of perception was without all of the distractions. It is through this mindful approach that you are able to enter a meditative state and the minimal look of most Miksang photographs results from reducing what caught your eye down to the pure visual elements of colour, light, pattern, and space.
This is the result of level 1 workshop, I must see what I already have in REDBUBBLE
I think I've got it correct this time.

PLANT HAIR - cheveux
By carolweb on Thursday, April 12 2012,
Playing with plants again! I saw a photo of a plant pot with this idea: the pot was a face (visage) and the plant in the pot looked like hair (ressemblait à de cheveux). I though it was very funny and I wanted one but could find one nowhere (je n'ai pas pu en trouver nulle part). Then I suddenly thought about sticking a picture (collant une image) on a pot. I found one just the size (taille) I wanted in an advert (une publicité). In fact it's only half (la moitié de) a face but you can't see that. It's amusing isn't it?
This one's amusing too: a giant cup and a miniature teapot (théière) I have two like this and they are on my window sill (rebord de fenêtre).

EASTER CUPCAKES - petits gateaux de Paques
By carolweb on Tuesday, April 10 2012,
Our tea on Easter Monday, home-made chocolate and vanilla buns decorated with Spring garden flowers by my grand-daughter - beautiful - and delicious. And they're so easy (facile), just the old Tupperware yoghurt cake recipe cooked in paper bun cases (caissettes) for 10 minutes. Unfortunately we had visitors so we didn't have many each, we had to share (partager)! We accompanied them with tea flavoured with ginger and cloves (clous de girofle), delicious also.
For lunch we had local oysters (huitres), a delicious pot-au-feu because the weather was cold and cherry clafoutis for dessert.
In the afternoon we flew kites (cerf-volants) in the garden because it was very windy (venteux). 'We' was me, my husband, my son, his wife and their two children -my grand children.

CHOSEN - choisie
By carolweb on Monday, April 9 2012,
I hope you had a Happy Easter (Paques) weekend and didn't eat too much chocolate!
Big news this morning: my photo from yesterday - zebra egg- was chosen to illustrate a challenge in the SHAPES AND PATTERNS group which has 4786 members! I am very honoured and delighted (ravie). I don't suppose it will win because of the number of members and their brilliant photos, but that doesn't change the fact that the group hosts were impressed by mine.

IN BETWEEN
By carolweb on Sunday, April 8 2012, - redbubble
I was invited into a new group in redbubble
It's a bit philosophical and difficult to understand what they want, but my first photo has been accepted and featured, so....
I created another one to put on the present challenge:
The challenge is "ZEBRA" "black and white stripes (rayures) is playing with contrast and disguise (déguisement) all at once en même temps) – integration of opposites... our challenge is to look in-between two conflicting alternatives, protective camouflage and identifying uniqueness."
Does that mean you have to have something zebra with black and white stripes or something with camouflage?
My photo was accepted so...

THE PLATE AND CIRCLES
By carolweb on Friday, April 6 2012, - redbubble
A round plate, a round dish, a round pie - what's in it?
Did I cook it or buy it?
Did I eat it hot or cold? Was it delicious?
Of course it was, because I made it, with cooked fish and mushrooms (champignons) in white sauce, with flaky pastry (pâte feuilletée) on the top. I ate it for dinner with a chicorée (endive) salad.

THE PLATE 3
By carolweb on Thursday, April 5 2012, - redbubble
REMEMBER? I took another photo today: Now I have a series of three.
I like the simplicity of these photos, I like the repetition of circles on the plate and its colour not exactly white.
Here's another plate, but full of delicious food this time.
This was my plate in our favourite Portuguese restaurant in Paris. It is octopus and prawns (crevettes) grilled on the barbecue with red and green peppers (poivrons), potatoes, onions and black olives. Deliciously perfumed olive oil was poured (versé) over it just before it came to my table, the smell was unbelievable (incroyable). As you can imagine, I enjoyed it. We had a bottle of sparkling (pétillant) Vinot Verdi to accompany it - all Portugal in a glass. I'll definitely go again.

PARISIAN SHOWS
By carolweb on Wednesday, April 4 2012, - Paris
Last time we went to Paris we went to two unusual (inhabituel) shows:
A play (pièce de théâtre), African stories inspired by Shakespeare in Polish with over titles in French! And it lasted 5h15 with two entr'actes!
In fact we enjoyed it, we didn't see anything African and sometimes it was difficult to find Shakespeare, but it was an excellent experience. Some spectators had their sandwiches and drinks, it was really an unusual evening out (en ville).
Another unusual evening was musical this time:
It was at the jazz club 'Sunset', The musicians were two flutists - three flutes each -, a double bass and a drummer. The lady playing was Nicole Mitchell who was Eddie Murphy's wife and mother of his four children!
You can listen to her on Youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuL2CNYXyMc
She certainly is different.

FLORAL ART 4
By carolweb on Monday, April 2 2012,
I made a double one this time - with some help fixing the frames (cadres) together (ensemble) and the plastic boxes behind.
It was a special order to go next to a modern art painting with green and mauve in it.
This one is completely different, it's made of slate (ardoise) and it's heavy (lourd). i'm not completely satisfied with it, I might change it (il se pourrait que je le modifie.)

I MADE IT 3
By carolweb on Sunday, April 1 2012,
This time it's sewing (couture). I went to the local Emmaüs shop and bought a pullover for 1 euros 50 and I made a cushion cover from it (j'en ai fait une housse de coussin).
In fact I made the cover from just the sleeve, so I have enough (assez) pullover left to make another cover, but I need another cushion and I only bought one.
It's good, isn't it? I'm happy with it, I think it's very original and knitted (tricoté) cushions are in fashion (à la mode). It will match (elle sera assortie) beautifully my red sofa in Paris.
I bought the cushion and the pullover, so it cost me 6 euros, cheap! (bon marché)

A RED WALL
By carolweb on Saturday, March 31 2012, - redbubble
I've been photgraphing my supermarkets again
Fantastic, this one, love it!
This time I went inside and found something graphic to photograph.
It's an attractive plate but I can't imagine eating my toast or a piece of tart in it. I didn't buy it, just took a photo.

FLORAL ART 3
By carolweb on Thursday, March 29 2012,
I'm still playing about with plant holders and this one I copied from the net, a pity (dommage) it's not my idea.
I think it's very amusing and I'm sure my grandson will love it. It's not just an ordinary plastic dinosaur, if you press under its stomach (ventre) it makes a noise (bruit)
How about this one?
and it makes a noise too! Hilairious

SUNSET IN PARIS - coucher de soleil
By carolweb on Wednesday, March 28 2012, - Paris
This was taken from the top of the Centre Pompidou coming out of the Matisse exhibition. I had bought a ticket on Internet but when we arrived at about 3.30pm (a very bad time) the queue for the exhibition was so long! We visited the permanent exhibitions and at 6 pm there was no queue. We were disappointed at the Matisse exhibition, there were not many paintings and we were out in 40 minutes - luckily: I was in time to take a photo of the beautiful sunset behind the Eiffel Tower.
This is a reconstruction of a room in the Elysée palace which was commissioned by Pompidou, who with his wife, loved modern art. It is by Yaacov Agam (b. 1928) an Israeli sculptor and experimental artist best known for his contributions to optical and kinetic art - amazing!

PLANTS IN A JACKET
By carolweb on Sunday, March 18 2012,
Hey! No need (pas de besoin) for fancy frames (cadres compliqués) in this one! Very funny, no?
I like it, I wish I had a white wall in my house where I could put one like this. I'd go to Emmaüs and buy a jacket for 5 euros - or why not a fur coat (un manteau de fourrure) - and put plants and flowers in the pockets.

ART WEEK AND SEEDS
By carolweb on Saturday, March 17 2012,
My latest addition to Arbrecourt art week
I bought the chair for 5 euros in the local Emmaüs, spent 3 times that on paint and a blue pot and here is the result. The plant is a jasmine and is supposed to climb up the chair; it's a work of art, it's not to sit on.
I must admit it's not my idea, I saw it on internet, but I think it's going to look great in my garden, not too far from (pas trop loin de) the house because it's nearly the same colour as (la même...que) the shutters volets).
I also planted some seeds (graines) in an egg box.
They are seeds (graines) from a magnolia tree in my neighbour's (voisine) garden. They were bright red when I collected them; they have been in the freezer and all winter in the fridge and I hope they're going to grow. (à suivre)
Update 15th April - my seeds didn't grow! what a disappointment!

MORE FLORAL ART
By carolweb on Friday, March 16 2012,
This has been a really creative week!
This has a more modern conception, I like it too.
The two pieces of silver card reflect different light and change colours, quite original.
This one's a bit easy and simple and very temporary: I just used the width (largeur) of the frame to stand a small pine branch and three blue bottle tops with water in. I like the posssibility of changing the plants and flowers.
This one too is very simple but effective; I used a bamboo table mat and fixed some tiny bottles with wire (fil de fer) on it. I filled them with water and put spring flowers, a twig (branchette) and some ivy (lierre) in them. I can vary the contents when I like.

A CELEBRATION
By carolweb on Wednesday, March 14 2012,
I'm delighted (enchantée), this year I won't have maize in front of my house! This calls for a celebration.
This year it's barley (orge) so it won't grow 2.5 metres high and block my view for 5 months. It has just started to grow (pousser) in spite of the lack (malgré le manque) of rain. It will be a field of golden colour in June and be cut in July. I'm very happy.

This is a side wall of Farfouille shop in Saintes, very colourful and very graffic.

GESTURE FOR THE PLANET!
By carolweb on Monday, March 12 2012,
My good deed (action) for the planet today was a trip to the recycling plant to throw away (jeter) my old computer. I arrived just in time for it to be taken away (emporter) by a big impressive lorry.
I am proud (je suis fière) to be part of the 'natural ressources' of the 21st century!!
I am going to continue throwing things away to declutter (désencombrer) my house. I feel so much better when there is more space.

FLORAL ART
By carolweb on Sunday, March 11 2012,
This weekend I suddenly remembered I knew how to do other things than take photos, so...
I made this.
Well, first I went shopping to buy some frames (cadres), some plastic boxes and some plants. I found some very nice frames for under 5 euros and I was very pleased with the result.
I didn't only make one, while the inspiration was working I made 4.
Fantastic, no?
Tableaux végétaux - don't know what they are called in English, (but the french name is not very poetical!) are in the fashion (à la mode) here but they are very expensive, the smallest one being 22 euros. Mine cost less than 10 and are much nicer.
I have to perfect them, to make sure they're solid and find a way to hang them up (les suspendre), for the moment they are on the table.
But why not? I can add a candle (bougie) and use them on the coffee table or as decoration on the dinner table when I have guests (invités).

SURPRISE INSIDE A CHINESE CABBAGE
By carolweb on Thursday, March 8 2012,
I cut a chinese cabbage in two and look what I found! it was beautiful inside, with tiny buds (boutons minuscules) and flowers. It's like a bouquet framed (encadré) by its own leaves.
I took a closer photo:
It's delicate, perfectly protected, until I discovered it!

TWO PINKS
By carolweb on Sunday, March 4 2012,
Two photos for a pink challenge:
A shop window in Paris, completely painted pink except for these holes (trous).
A pile of pink suitcases (valises) used in a display au Printemps.
Very vibrant colours.

THE PLATE - l'assiette
By carolweb on Tuesday, February 28 2012,
I bought two new breakfast/dessert plates and they inspired some very graffic photos:
I put them in my redbubble group 'SHAPES AND PATTERNS' and I'm very proud that one is chosen to be featured. There are 4725 people in this group, so it's very difficult to be noticed (être remarqué).
I think another photo would be nice to make a series of three, but I don't know what to put in the middle (au centre). I'm waiting for inspiration!

LIFE - la vie
By carolweb on Sunday, February 12 2012,
“Life isn't how to survive the storm, it's about how to dance in the rain.” ― Taylor Swift.
Do you agree? (Etes-vous d'accord?) I read this quote in somebody's profile on redbubble.
I have a photo to illustrate it:
