THREE COMPLIMENTS

Wow, that was quick - as soon as I uploaded (téléchargé) my photo I got three comments with great compliments, they love it. Strange but I don't really like it, something is wrong (q'q'chose ne va pas) but I don't know what.

It was for the challenge 'A WALL AND A WINDOW'. Unfortunately a lot of the photos in the challenge are not following the theme: they are photos of a window and not a wall WITH a window. Well, at least 3 people love mine, I wonder if I'll win.
I've taken a photo nearly like this before, but the wall is PINK I like this one a lot more (beaucoup plus).

BEETLES - scarabées

Two small beetles I photographed in my garden.

<Digimax i6 PMP, Samsung #11 PMP>

This metallic green one, 10mm long, is called a "fat-legged flower beetle" (scarabée aux grosses cuisses!), you can see why! One site on the Net says "They look as if their wing covers (elytra) have shrunk in the wash because they don't quite meet in the middle." (On dirait que leurs ailes ont rétréci au lavage car elles ne se joignent plus au centre). It's obviously a humorous site.

This bright red one is a bee beetle ( le clairon des abeilles); it feeds on pollen in flowers and sometimes small insects. It lays its larvae in wild bees' nests (les nids d'abeille sauvages) and they feed on the bee larvae.

POPPIES in the garden

Poppies again, but they are just too beautiful (trop beaux!) when the morning sun shines through them, I couldn't resist taking the photo.

<Digimax i6 PMP, Samsung #11 PMP>
This is what Wikipedia says about them. "Symbolism

Poppies have long been used as a symbol of both sleep ( le sommeil) and death (la mort): sleep because of the opium extracted from them, and death because of their (commonly) blood-red color. In Greco-Roman myths, poppies were used as offerings to the dead.1 Poppies are used as emblems on tombstones to symbolize eternal sleep. A second meaning for the depiction and use of poppies in Greco-Roman myths is the symbolism of the bright scarlet colour as signifying the promise of resurrection after death.2 The poppy of wartime remembrance is Papaver rhoeas, the red flowered Corn poppy."

SOMETHING BEGINNING WITH "S"

On the redbubble site( again!) I belong to a group called "Alphabet Soup" and at the moment it's letter "S".
Here are my entries ( I'm allowed 2):

<Digimax i6 PMP, Samsung #11 PMP>

Strawberries and stripes (des rayures).
The strawberries were taken on a street stall (un étalage) in Paris. I bought some, they were delicious,sweet and juicy ( juteuses).
"Stripes" was taken in Paris too; unfortunately (malheureusement) I don't know where it is, I was just passing at the end of the street. CLICK here and you can see the other entries. Do you think mine are best? See if you can find all the names of the photos beginning with "S".
I had other photos beginning with "S" to choose from, it's difficult to choose. I have snails, station, statue, socks, swan (un cygne), shells and stones (coquillages et cailloux), spots - like the photo below- ...
I was voted in the Top Ten with me photo of strawberries. Yuppee!

COLOURS

<Digimax i6 PMP, Samsung #11 PMP>

Where did I go today to see a wall like this? No, not Paris, in Charente Maritime.
It's one of the front walls of my local Leclerc supermarket! I went to print some photos in the automatic machine.
And also to get my tickets for an exhibition in Paris, CRIMES ET CHATIMENTS at the Orsay museum, that I bought on the Internet. It wasn't possible to print them at home, Click on the link and you can hear what Robert Badinter says about the exhibition. He explains that the Bible says the first man born on earth was Caïn who was an assassin. You can also see the guillotine that was last used in 1972!
I'm going to the exhibition in May but I bought tickets so as not to wait in the queue - I don't like queueing and in Paris it's a waste of time(une perte de temps).

Dripping blood / Sang qui coule

<Digimax i6 PMP, Samsung #11 PMP>

I saw these big urns in my local garden centre, the vivid red paint running down looks like blood (du sang). They're very impressive and I love the colours but I don't know if I'd like them on my terrace, they're a bit gory. :( I didnt look at the price, but they're probably expensive.

Here's something else vibrant red:

This incredible cockerel is in a children's book called "Salut Poulette" and the illustrator is Catherine Allard. ++BUY++
Her animal portraits are so alive and vibrant. She is going to illustrate my husband's next book for children. More later (à suivre)

Radishes and abstract art

I just couldn't resist this photo from the local supermarket, what vibrant colours!

<Digimax i6 PMP, Samsung #11 PMP>

I didn't buy any, I didn't notice the price and I didn't read where they came from. But I looked on Internet to find the nutritional value of a radish! No value you think? Well, read this:

Nutrition Facts and Information about Radish:

"Radish has excellent levels of copper, manganese and potassium. It is also a good source of calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorous, zinc and sodium.

Vitamin Content: Radishes are a very good source of vitamin c and vitamin k. They also contain riboflavin and vitamin b6.

Calorie Content of Radish: 100g of radish contains 16 calories only. Radish is low in saturated fat and very low in cholesterol. They are also very good source of dietary fiber.

Unbelievable, no?
That's all supposing they're organic and not polluted by chemicals and you don't eat them with bread and lots of butter.
Tomorrow I'm going back to the shop to buy some!

After going to the supermarket I drove round the town to take some photos and I was very excited because I found my first rusty skip ( benne rouillée). :)) Explanations are needed here.
On the redbubble site the photos I prefer are in the group Abstract Urban Art (lien en bas de page): I like abstract art and these brilliant photos are often of rust and paint marks on skips. I finally found one today, a blue one. I took a lot of photos, here is one of my favourites

I didn't find a title, can you suggest one?

redbubble.com

In April 2009 I found, by chance on Internet, and joined the art site redbubble.com.
I love this site: there are hundreds of themed groups for all different subjects that organise challenges. I enjoy competing in the challenges and seeing other people's work. It's a site in English and most people come from America, Australia or South Africa, but there are people from all over the world.
It changed completely my photos, now I take abstract "art": blocks of colours, forms, everyday objects.
Click on 'my folio' link - en bas de page - and see my folio and look at the names of the groups I belong to.
One of the groups I belong to that I like very much is called "Wall of the world" (lien en bas de page) and is just for photos of walls! There are some fantastic unusual photos.
This is my latest wall photo. What do you think of it? :)) The title is "Bleeding wall" (Mur qui saigne".)

Or this one?

I'll show you some of my other photos another day.
