310!! 3 years and 5 months!!

Today's favourite photos: OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA         strong, colourful,bright,a statement;

<Digimax i6 PMP, Samsung #11 PMP>
pale, minimalist, grey, but also a statement!
Straight but twisted, two dots and an oval, in opposite corners.
They are very different but I like them both. Both taken in an instant, with no hesitation.

THE SPAMMERS HAVE FOUND ME

I am receiving a lot of spam, so I am blocking the comments.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Colourful orange peppers, full of vitamins and antioxydants!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And a colourful corner in the Palais de Tokyo, Paris - yes, I've been there again.

This installation of silver balloons was magical, you could go in among them(parmi eux) and make them move.

4th July

Independance Day for America - bravo! Not everybody's independant these days (de nos jours) And they have been for 217 years.
"Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks (feu d'artifices), parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, and political speeches and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States." Here's a model specially for the day - but who would dare wear it (qui oserait le porter)?

MODERN CROCKERY -vaisselle moderne

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Just look at these modern art cup and plate made be De Havilland, seen in a shop -or should I say 'boutique'- window in the expensive district of Paris! Imagine a table full of these! And what sort of tablecloth (nappe) would you use? They are very expensive: 45 euros for the cup and saucer (sous-tasse) and 65 euros for the dessert plate. Perhaps you could buy just one of each (une de chaque) and different ones for each guest (invité). I quite like them ( je les aime assez), I find them interesting, different from the usual flowers and pink roses. If I had enough (assez) money I would buy a cup and saucer and drink my breakfast tea in it and feel very snobby.
And what about the window dressing with the paint all dripping down (dégoulinante), interesting also, and unusual (peu commun) for an expensive boutique. I like people who can be different.

OSAKA ORANGE

What on earth is an osaka orange? Here it is
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
I picked it up (ramassé) in the middle of a country road near my house. It's an enormous fruit fallen from a tree, and there were dozens of them, some squashed (écrasé) by cars. I cut one open to see what it was like inside
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
I looked on internet to discover what it was and all about it. I read it is not edible and the seeds (graines) are not fertile.
Still, I planted it and now, in May look what is happening (ce qui se passe)
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Lots of seeds are growing and pushing the fruit out of (en dehors de) the soil (terre)! Unbelievable! I am delighted (je suis ravie). I hope they will continue growing (pousser).
One month since (depuis) the last entry! I promise I won't do it again.

GREEN SOUP

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Fluorescent soup! What is in it?
Nettles (orties) from the garden, broccoli stalks (tiges), water cress stalks, an onion, salt and pepper, served with paprika popcorn and it has a definite smell (odeur) of mushrooms (champignons) - and it was delicious. I'll make it again

RED SPIKES - piquets rouges

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Curious! Never seen these before - but I'm not a regular visitor to building sites:) This is on the beach in Charente Maritime.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

These had just been taken out (enlevé) and some had already walked on the sand garden. Can't see people - or dogs - respecting this, it doesn't look like a garden.

WHAT'S THIS?

220px-Ecu_Andre_Le_Notre.svg.png
Armoiries I hear you say. OK, coat of arms.
Manteaux de bras?
No, armoiries - read closely, there is 'arms' in armoiries :)
OK, what can you see on the coat of arms?
Snails?
No, , they don't have houses on their backs, they are slugs(limaçons)! Beurk! Yuk! But look at their eyes, they're wide awake(bien révéillé), looking around, not sliding(glissant) along under the grass!
It's not a joke, this is real, this is somebody's coat of arms.
Whose?
You'll never guess in a thousand years.
They belong to Lenôtre - no, not the chocolate man. That was GASTON Lenôtre. This is André.
You remember, LouisXIV favourite gardener between 1645 and 1700, the one who created the gardens of Versailles and the famous 'jardins à la française'.
Mind you, he had no real merit, his father Jean was already(déjà) the king's gardener in the Tuileries gardens and his mother the daughter of a gardener; his godfather(parrain) was chief administrator of the king's gardens under Henry IV and Louis X11; his godmother(marraine) was the wife of a king's gardener!! In the family, so to speak (pour ainsi dire)!!
So, why did he have slugs on his coat of arms?
He was ennobled by Louis XIV in 1675 and when Louis ordered him to choose his coat of arms, he joked about it and said he had already 3 slugs crowned by a cabbage(un chou). The king had a coat of arms made: a sand coloured background(fond) engraved with a gold chevron shape and three silver(argent) slugs!
(A chevron symbolizes protection; for builders or others who have accomplished some work of faithful (bons et loyaux) service. A slug is a symbol of foresight (prévoyance). READ ABOUT HIM IN FRENCH)
So, why am I writing about him today?
Because I discovered 2013 in Lenôtre year and all sorts of celebrations will be taking place(auront lieu). He was born on March 12th 1613, 400 years ago and his gardens are still admired today. What an achievement! (quelle prouesse)!
So, everybody, get out(sortez) into your gardens, onto your balconies, it's celebration year for French gardens, let's see what you can do.

READ BEFORE EATING - lire avant de manger

My 300th entry was on the 2nd of February, I got 2 comments, today is the 22nd, so here's number 301.
Gastronomic dinner, special Super U, last minute, when I realized I'd forgotten to make some soup:
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Soupe de "tomates et oignons" hydratée "saveur ancienne"!! OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA "Nutrition - riche en goût"; In fact soupe aux "pommes de terre et farine" ( at least no huile de palme!) Where are the onions? 1.9%! Disgusting!

Onion omelette - home_made, eggs from Marie-Claude's chickens - l'honneur est sauve!
Accompanied by little eels, according to the photo, OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA but..- no cheating, it was written "surimi", I hadn't read at the bottom of the back of the packet! (at least no huile de palme!) OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Question: how on earth did they get the encre de sèche to stick along just one side of the surimi? Imagine the hours of reasearch to create these things!
Dessert: again out of a packet, but bravo Leader Price, only natural normal ingredients in the right proportions!
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
I'm ashamed (j'ai honte), I won't do it again!
Yesterday evening on Top Chef they had to create a dish "trompe-l'oeil", Super U would have won easily,The winning dish was grated (rapé) mango that looked like grated carrots, not very exciting.
Maggi is an old brand, you would think it was trustworthy (digne de confiance). Pity, industrialization and greed (avidité) has killed the natural. Disgusting, it is food after all.

ENTRY 300 - 11 PAGES!!

What am I going to put in for my 300th entry?
An outside view?
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
An inside view?
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
A close-up?
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Or a mystery 'don't know what it is" shot?
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
I couldn't decide, so you got all four :)

Is anybody reading this, except me?

REDS - rouges

I found some old photos for the red challenges this week in Redbubble:

<Digimax i6 PMP, Samsung #11 PMP>

First for the challenge 'man-made'. I saw this in a modern art exhibition in Paris, made by ANITA MOLERINO; you can watch and lidten to explanations about her work. She uses everyday objects and deforms them with heat.

<Digimax i6 PMP, Samsung #11 PMP>

Second for the 'nature' red challenge; this is a hollyhock seen in TALMONT, Charente Maritime.
They are unusual photos but I don't know if they will be selected.

TRAM ART

Shocking! I was absolutely disgusted (dégouté) by the so-called (soi-disant) works of art chosen to go along the new tramway in Paris!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This one is canoes - along a tramway?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This one a broken lamp post!
There was also rocks on top of masts, a moving frieze that started as big black ants that became all deformed and ended as circles, a frieze of carved rabbits that I didn't even recognize....! Unbelievable. And so childish (enfantin)! Not worthy of Paris.
I've seen better things than these on the roundabouts, and in England there are some fantastic immense scultures along the motorways.

ON THE BRIDGE - sur le pont

The bridge is at the end of a lock (écluse) in a small town in Charente Maritime,

Can you hear the water rushing through the gates?

PARIS AT CHRISTMAS - à Noël

More than one month since my last entry, but nobody has said anything (personne n'a rien dit), so probably nobody's reading it! What a pity! (quel dommage)
In the mean time (entretemps) the Christmas and New Year celebrations have passed, even an alert for the end of the world - and I'm still here (je suis encore là).
I have made two calenders, one with 12 photos of Paris in 2012 and one with 12 red photos; I'm very pleased with them.
I didn't take many photos in Paris in December, the weather wasn't very good: cold and very grey most days, no good for taking photos. Even the pigeons were cold - but they knew how to get warm (se réchauffer).

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

One day the Eiffel Tower completely disappeared in the mist.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I took confusing, busy photos full of incongruous details; but this is what Paris is like.

DISGUSTING - dégoutant

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

What is this? Made with palm oil and pork gelatine and sugar! They are sweets (bonbons) of the famous supermarket brand Super U. Sweets for children made with such rubbish. The worst thing is the front of the bag makes you think they're made with fruit!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OK, it says "goût ..."(flavour...) but even so! (même). Imagine chewing (mâchant) these, horrible! i think I'm going to write to the supermarket and tell them of my disgust.

BLUES IN PARIS

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Beautiful blue lights at the Rond point de l'Elysée on the Champs Elysées at the end of November in the rain.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Beautiful blue street art in the Belleville district by ROTI a very well-written article - in French.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

As it says, it's a sort of Noah's ark driven by a rabbit - what imagination!

NOVEMBER

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

All the colours of Autumn in these chrysanthemums that have become the graveyard (cimetière) flower in France. What a pity, they are beautiful vibrant colours, but they don't like heavy rain (de fortes pluies) or cold.
I bought 3 pots of yellow ones for my garden and they add a spot of colour among (parmi) all the dark greens.

GOT IT - Je l'ai

I've got it! What? The famous 'ethylotest' of course!

And I am absolutely furious.
Look carefully at the photo and see where this little piece of plastic costing 2 euros comes from!!
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Made in South Africa, distributed through Canada!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA In these days when we hear and read so much about carbon footprint (empreinte carbonique) this is unbelievable! Imagine what the carbon footprint is of millions of this ridiculous result of a ridiculous political decision. And the powers to be (les pouvoirs publiques) dare (osent) tell us to buy and eat local produce to save energy!
I bought it at a garage Renault, a part goverment owned company. I got it quite by chance, there are none to be had anywhere (nullepart); none in the shops, supermarkets, hypermarkets.
I am disgusted (dégoutée).

BLUE DOOR

What a beautiful door! Where does it go? What is inside? What is outside around it? Mystery.
The grapes are delicious :)

Walking along the local harbour, the rain had accentuated the colours in the planks, a real autumn atmosphere.

KEYS TO THE GARDEN GATE

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

What sort of a garden is behind the gates? Flowers? Vegetables? Fountains, lakes? Trees? Fruit trees? Stone sculptures? Secrets?

FLOWER AND SNAIL UP THE POST - escargot sur le poteau

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A flower against the shutter of a house in Talmont, interesting colours.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Snail on a post in the vineyard; these snails have all disappeared from my garden, but they're all there in the vineyard, up the posts and the plant stems (tiges). The soil (terre) is very dry and they climb up to be in a cool breeze!

HOT, HOT, HOT!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Temperature already hot under the tree, going up.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Still going up, it's getting difficult to stay out even in the shade under the tree, I have to keep going in the house where it's cool.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
It didn't get any hotter than this, the wind stopped and it started cooling down.

HEART SHADOW

Look what I discovered when I put my book down

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Is it a sign? An omen? Or just a coincidence. Strange. I uploaded it to redbubble to the MIKSANG and the IN BETWEEN groups of course. I wonder if it will have any success.

It inspired me to take another one, not a coincidence this time.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Not as original this time, but I still like it.

MONTPARNASSE STATION PARIS

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A very good initiative this summer: pianos in different place in the capital, here in Montparnasse station, for the public to play. On the piano is a notice saying "à vous de jouer" (your turn to play) and for the hour I was there waiting for a train there was always someone playing. It was very agreable and pleasant to listen to; I heard classical music, jazz and even children playing. What a good idea.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This is the ceiling (plafond) over the piano :) I found the shapes and patterns interesting.
