About time I reappeared! I've been to Paris and to England and I've enjoyed myself (je me suis amusée).
Jet 2, a very good flight, on time, from Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris to Leeds in Yorkshire where my sister and her husband were waiting for us. 45 minutes drive through on very green roads,
and here is the idyllic countryside just in front of my sister's house.

BEETLES - scarabées
By carolweb on Tuesday, June 15 2010,
Two small beetles I photographed in my garden.
This metallic green one, 10mm long, is called a "fat-legged flower beetle" (scarabée aux grosses cuisses!), you can see why! One site on the Net says "They look as if their wing covers (elytra) have shrunk in the wash because they don't quite meet in the middle." (On dirait que leurs ailes ont rétréci au lavage car elles ne se joignent plus au centre). It's obviously a humorous site.
This bright red one is a bee beetle ( le clairon des abeilles); it feeds on pollen in flowers and sometimes small insects. It lays its larvae in wild bees' nests (les nids d'abeille sauvages) and they feed on the bee larvae.

PINK WALL - CHALLENGE WIN
By carolweb on Sunday, May 30 2010,
I won a challenge on the REDBUBBLE SITE again!! I'm so proud of myself! (Je suis fière de moi). It was in the Colour me a Rainbow group-pink.
REMEMBER THIS PHOTO? I included it nearly at the beginning of my blog.Just look at this shocking pink colour and imagine a whole wall(un mur entier) like this! Two walls in fact. It didn't do any good for the furniture shop, because it closed. Shocking for the building but lovely for the photographer.
Today I entered the Green challenge with a photo I took near my house.
This is a close-up of wheat in the field (du blé dans le champ); I don't think it will win, it's not as good as (pas aussi bon que) the pink one.

COLOURS
By carolweb on Tuesday, May 4 2010,
Where did I go today to see a wall like this? No, not Paris, in Charente Maritime.
It's one of the front walls of my local Leclerc supermarket! I went to print some photos in the automatic machine.
And also to get my tickets for an exhibition in Paris, CRIMES ET CHATIMENTS at the Orsay museum, that I bought on the Internet. It wasn't possible to print them at home, Click on the link and you can hear what Robert Badinter says about the exhibition. He explains that the Bible says the first man born on earth was Caïn who was an assassin. You can also see the guillotine that was last used in 1972!
I'm going to the exhibition in May but I bought tickets so as not to wait in the queue - I don't like queueing and in Paris it's a waste of time(une perte de temps).

MAIZE
By carolweb on Friday, April 30 2010,
Oh,no! here it comes: the maize that's going to block my view. READ PREVIOUS ENTRY
The grains were planted on the 9th April and the field is already green, it grows quickly with all the chemical fertilizer (engrais)! I think I'm going to measure how much it grows in 24 hours, with rain or without rain. I don't like it!!
What I DO like is this:
This is growing quickly too; they are the first leaves and flowers on the vine behind my house.
I live in the Cognac area where there are lots of vineyards producing white wine to make cognac. The farmer grows the grapes, presses them and makes juice, lets it ferment to make wine, then the cognac producers take it to distill into eau de vie. Only when it has aged (vieilli) in barrels does it become cognac.
I love drinking the grape juice. When the press starts I go to fill my bottle with the fresh juice, it's delicious. But I have a long time to wait, it's at the end of September!

My horizon
By carolweb on Friday, April 9 2010,
This photo's quite different, but it has a story.
"A tractor,", I hear you say. Yes, but you didn't look far enough (assez loin), the title is 'My Horizon'.
This is the view I have from my house, I can see the horizon and it's very important for me, I need space, I need to see. I bought this house 12 years ago because it has a beautiful view over the fields.
The story? That tractor is preparing the soil and
this one is planting maize. In 15 days the maize will start growing, it will grow and grow and grow and will finally block my view! I will not be able to see the horizon, just a wall of maize, and like that from July to the beginning of November. 4 months behind a green, then yellow, then brown wall.
When it is finally cut it's like a prison opening, suddenly I can see again!
So I'm not happy to see the this tractor in "my" field.
I also photographed the tractors to send the photos to my 3 year-old grandson who loves tractors.
