How happy I am this year without the field of maize: I can see the horizon and there are beautiful colours with the field of sunflowers (tournesols). It's all so open and relaxing, I can just sit there and look. The barley is still there, it hasn't been harvested yet (il n'a pas encore été moissonné), but the field will still be the same colour afterwards (ensuite).

SWEPT UP -balayé
By carolweb on Monday, July 23 2012,
Mystery on the patio: this is what I swept up (balayé). Where did that cat thing come from? It looks like (ça a l'air de) a Christmas thing, It must have been on the patio a long time!

SUMMER HARVEST - moisson d'été
By carolweb on Wednesday, July 18 2012,
Time to harvest the barley (l'orge), it's late in fact because of the rain. just look at the dust (poussière) in the evening sun.
Summer is also the time for the hollyhocks (roses trèmieres), they're beautiful also with the sun behind.

RAINY JULY
By carolweb on Friday, July 13 2012,
I don't believe it! July 13th and it was like this all day: rain and high winds. Then suddenly at 7pm the rain stopped and blue sky appeared and the sun came out. What a relief - but the wind didn't stop and the temperature was only 17°. I wonder how many towns cancelled their firework (feu d'artifice) display.

REDBUBBLE CHANGE
By carolweb on Thursday, July 12 2012,
Oh dear, redbubble has changed its page setout, I hate that, I've just spent at least (au moins) an hour looking how to do my usual things! I was just in time to enter a challenge: 'Through a rainy window' and I put this one in
I took it from inside a bus, fortunately, it ws pouring (il pleuvait à verse).
I also put this one in the Miksang and Monochrome groups
I like the different shapes in this one and the monochrome aspect.

NEW GROUP
By carolweb on Tuesday, July 10 2012,
I've just joined a new group on redbubble: LUSCIOUS FOOD HOUSE, though I must admit I find it difficult to take good photos of food. But I have quite a few, especially of cakes so I'm putting them in the group.
Here's one that is not of cakes:
This is how they sell sprouts in Northallerton, Yorkshire! English people love sprouts, they're even part of Christmas dinner with the turkey(dinde).

STRANGE STATUES
By carolweb on Friday, July 6 2012,
Work seen in the Palais de Tokyo at the Triennale exhibition. The exhibit is called 'Silent City'.
This is in bronze, a small girl standing in a bucket of water.
What is the meaning of these two sculptures? Both female figures, they are trapped by objects:a table, a bucket.

SUMMER HAT
By carolweb on Saturday, June 30 2012,
Why has the man left his hat on the bench?
What does he look like (A quoi ressemble-t-il?)
Is he sitting next to it or has he walked away?
Is there someone else on the bench or is he alone?
Is it in a garden or in a street?

HABITAT YELLOWS
By carolweb on Friday, June 29 2012,
The Habitat shop window in avenue Wagram, Paris often changes their colour scheme - yellow is for summer.
This one's cute, it reminds me of Paul Klee's painting where there are lots of little yellow birds and one upside down (à l'nevers).

CAKES
By carolweb on Saturday, June 23 2012,
Oh, the English bakeries! Nostalgy, sweetness, how i'd love to eat just one! But just one's not possible, there are so many!
Scones with jam and clotted cream, Betty's speciality in York, delicious!
And these dainty little square cakes covered in fondant icing (glacage)! Typical Yorkshire cakes for tea.
Those are dainty,OK, but just look at these found on internet!
They are amazing, too beautiful to eat.

ENGLAND
By carolweb on Friday, June 22 2012,
About time I reappeared! I've been to Paris and to England and I've enjoyed myself (je me suis amusée).
Jet 2, a very good flight, on time, from Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris to Leeds in Yorkshire where my sister and her husband were waiting for us. 45 minutes drive through on very green roads,
and here is the idyllic countryside just in front of my sister's house.

JELLY SUCCESS
By carolweb on Friday, June 8 2012,
I tried again with elderberry flowers, leaving them just to cool and not macerate longer and this time it was a success. So here are my two creations for the moment: The poppy petal doesn't have much taste but the elderberry is very delicate.

START AGAIN - recommencer
By carolweb on Wednesday, June 6 2012,
The elderberry was no good, it just tasted green, I think it macerated too long; so I threw it away (jeté) and started again with some poppy petals (coquelicot).
They're a beautiful red. I put 1 litre of cold water on them, heated to boiling point (chauffé jusqu'à ébullition), the left to cool. I mixed in some agar-agar, boiled for 2 minutes, poured (versé) in jars and left to set (laissé prendre).

JELLY
By carolweb on Tuesday, June 5 2012,
Someone gave me a jar (pot) of jelly made from acacia flowers, it's delicious, a very delicate flavour.
I've no acacia flowers but I have some elderberry (sureau) and I know you can make flavoured water with them.
I looked for a recipe (recette) on internet and went out just before the rain to pick (cueillir) the flowers. Here they are soaking (macérant) in 1.5 litres of hot water, as the recipe said.
I must leave them for 3 days before filtering and making the jelly.

GARDEN PHOTOS
By carolweb on Thursday, May 31 2012,
I was sitting in my chair in the garden in front of the house under the tree when I heard a noise in the gutter (gouttière). i looked up and saw two big grass snakes (couleuvres) on the roof (toit). I dashed (je me suis précipitée) for my camera and took a few photos before they disappeared up the roof and under the tiles (tuiles).
One poppy (coquelicot) petal on the grass. I have three big groups of poppies on my lawn that I saved from the lawnmower (tondeuse). They are a brilliant red when the sun shines (brille).

MONUMENTA EXHIBITION
By carolweb on Thursday, May 24 2012,
Monumenta is a special exhibition in the nef of the Grand Palais under the 30 metre high glass roof. This year the invited artist is Buren and his creation is magic:
The immense room is full of colours, shapes ans reflections. There are 5 different sizes (tailles) of coloured discs supported by black and white posts; when the sun shines the colours are beautiful.
This is seen from above, from the staircase,
In the centre there are some circular mirrors which bring the ceiling (plafond) down to the floor (plancher), the reflections are curious.

SOMETHING BEGINNING WITH 'S'.
By carolweb on Sunday, May 13 2012, - redbubble
She sells sea shells at the sea shore in a souvenir shop! 8 's's!
How about these kitsch crabs in the same shop.
What a pity I didn't have my purse (porte-monnaie) with me! I would have bought one or two (j'aurais en acheté une ou deux). They're crazy.

CROCS AND FLIPFLOPS
By carolweb on Friday, May 11 2012,
Just look at these colours! The whole wall (le mur entier) was covered with them, sorry, half the wall, the other half was these:
They were only 3 euros a pair!

CANDIDATE ECOLOGIST
By carolweb on Thursday, May 10 2012,
She didn't get elected (élu) but she's found a new job! Her hair is badly styled as usual (elle est malcoiffé)
These flat-bottomed clouds (nuages à fond plat) are very common here, there are even long lines of them. Apparently they are at the limit of evaporation. Strange.

ELECTION DAY
By carolweb on Sunday, May 6 2012,
Democracy's important, so many people are still fighting (se battent toujours) for it, for the right droit) to choose their leaders. We in France have this right, so let's use it (utilisons le). I voted today and France has changed presidents.

SPRING FLOWERS
By carolweb on Tuesday, May 1 2012,
Time for some photos of flowers, the garden's full of them now. Here are some bluebells at the foot of a tree.
This is colza in a nearby field:
The perfume when the sun shines is amazing (étonnant). The seeds (graines) will be made into oil later in the year.

INTELLIGENCE SUR LES CHAMPS
By carolweb on Sunday, April 29 2012,
I photographed this curious structure on the Champs Elysées in Paris. What is it? 3 seats under a roof with a garden on top and strange wooden legs (jambes) that are not straight (droit)! I found the explanation on the internet of course: it's MOBILIER URBAIN INTELLIGENT!
Honestly, it's not very aesthetical and not at all in context on the 'most beautiful avenue in the world' as the French say! And it's not at all friendly, there are only three individual seats and people walking down the Champs are always in groups or families.
This is also on the Champs, it was very windy and chilly and not very many people were sitting at the café.

BROKEN - cassé
By carolweb on Saturday, April 28 2012,
In Paris I dropped (laissé tonber) my camera and the objective was stuck (coincé), I couldn't use it anymore (ne plus). I was devastated, my camera! it had become part of my arm (bras)! I looked for (cherché) the guarentee, lost (perdu); I tried to take it apart (demonter), impossible; I shook it, there was a terrible noise; I managed (j'ai réussi) to take 3 photos, here is one.
Finally in despair (en désespoir) I banged it (je l'ai tapé). Suddenly the objective went back in (est rentré) and everything was normal!!:)
Amazing! I was on the point of throwing it in the bin (le jeter à la poubelle).I
I was so happy.:) I immediately went out and took some photos and continued my series of 'the plate'.

THE PLATE 4
By carolweb on Friday, April 27 2012,
Decidely I love this plate!
In the first plate is a radish grown (poussé) in my garden, that I ate afterwards (ensuite).
In the second is some home-made liver paté with Cognac, which i also ate afterwards - delicious.
I will have to put all my photos of this plate together (ensemble); I learnt today it's called typography photo when you do this. I googled and discovered someone who does this with photos of posts (poteaux). I'd have no problems doing that, I live just near vineyards where there are hundreds of posts - I'll have to try.
Here is one from my garden
Bof!
