PARISIAN SHOWS

Last time we went to Paris we went to two unusual (inhabituel) shows:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A play (pièce de théâtre), African stories inspired by Shakespeare in Polish with over titles in French! And it lasted 5h15 with two entr'actes! In fact we enjoyed it, we didn't see anything African and sometimes it was difficult to find Shakespeare, but it was an excellent experience. Some spectators had their sandwiches and drinks, it was really an unusual evening out (en ville).

Another unusual evening was musical this time:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It was at the jazz club 'Sunset', The musicians were two flutists - three flutes each -, a double bass and a drummer. The lady playing was Nicole Mitchell who was Eddie Murphy's wife and mother of his four children!
You can listen to her on Youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuL2CNYXyMc
She certainly is different.

AVIGNON

"Sur le pont d'Avignon, on y danse, on y danse...."

Here it is, the famous bridge; small isn't it? I went and danced on it one year with my daughter.

But in Avignon during the theatre festival, nobody looks at the bridge, they're all in the air-conditionned(climatisés) theatres or in the stifling (étouffant) hot streets. 38°! Very hot. The streets are full of theatre-goers, from 9a.m. to 1a.m; full of restaurants and bars with people eating or having cold drinks; full of costumed actors distributing flyers (tracts) and trying to convince potential spectators to go and see their play (pièce). There's a fantastic atmosphere, I love it.

Every possible place in the streets is covered with posters of the 1000 plays to choose from each day.
1000 plays!! Imagine! If you saw six a day for the 24 days of the festival you wouldn't see a quarter!

ENTRY SIXTY

Sixty entries already (déjà)!

<Digimax i6 PMP, Samsung #11 PMP>
And this photo to say tomorrow I'm driving down to Avignon to go to the theatre festival, so there'll be no entries for 5-6 days. I love Avignon festival: the ambience is so special, the town is full of theatre-going people, the walls are covered with posters. The only problem is the heat (la chaleur), and this year the weather forecast (la météo) promises 35°!! Inside the theatres there is air-conditioning (la clim), but when you come out in the street it is like walking into an oven (un four).
I'll tell you about it when I come back.

THEATRE

When we go to Paris we go to the theatre every evening; we buy our tickets half price at the kiosk. Last week I loved the play adapted from the book by Katarina Mazetti "Le mec de la tombe d'à côté". It was about the shock of culture differences, a couple with nothing in common who end up in love. He's a farmer, she's a librairian and they meet in the cemetary, (he's lost his mother, she's lost her husband), and even their tombs are completely different. The actors were very good and the play very amusing.

WATCH THE VIDEO

A friend lent me the book - she hasn't seen the play, I haven't read the book, so we'll exchange impression after.

That explains why today I went to take photos in the cemetary, and I found two tombs like in the play, completely different.

This would be his

This would be hers - it's even got a book!

Which one do you prefer? Not a good question? Well the play was very amusing. READ a critics opinion''.
More about Paris soon.
