GARDEN PHOTOS

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I was sitting in my chair in the garden in front of the house under the tree when I heard a noise in the gutter (gouttière). i looked up and saw two big grass snakes (couleuvres) on the roof (toit). I dashed (je me suis précipitée) for my camera and took a few photos before they disappeared up the roof and under the tiles (tuiles).

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

One poppy (coquelicot) petal on the grass. I have three big groups of poppies on my lawn that I saved from the lawnmower (tondeuse). They are a brilliant red when the sun shines (brille).

POPPIES in the garden

Poppies again, but they are just too beautiful (trop beaux!) when the morning sun shines through them, I couldn't resist taking the photo.

This is what Wikipedia says about them. "Symbolism

Poppies have long been used as a symbol of both sleep ( le sommeil) and death (la mort): sleep because of the opium extracted from them, and death because of their (commonly) blood-red color. In Greco-Roman myths, poppies were used as offerings to the dead.1 Poppies are used as emblems on tombstones to symbolize eternal sleep. A second meaning for the depiction and use of poppies in Greco-Roman myths is the symbolism of the bright scarlet colour as signifying the promise of resurrection after death.2 The poppy of wartime remembrance is Papaver rhoeas, the red flowered Corn poppy."

SPRING RAIN

At the moment we're having showers (des averses), in fact the weather is more like April than June. Today they were thunder (orageuses) showers and it rained a lot. When the sun came out again I went out to take some photos of rain drops; sometimes they are beautiful.

These rain drops are on a poppy (un coquelicot); did you know these beautiful flowers were so hairy (poilus)?!

It's cherry time, they are ripe (mûres), red and delicious, and the birds (les oiseaux) like them too! I have eaten a lot, but I have also made 5 jars of jam (pots de confiture).

POPPY

Poppies usually grow in crowds - what is this one doing all alone in the barley field (champ d'orge)?

<Digimax i6 PMP, Samsung #11 PMP>

In Scotland barley is used to make whisky, I don't know what they do with it here. I will have to ask my neighbour (mon voisin) the farmer.
