Autumn already? No! Well, look at this photo:
These are hawthorn berries (des baies d'aubépine) already brilliant red. They're food (de la nourriture) for the birds in winter, but hey! it's not winter yet! (pas encore) Where did summer go?
It's very dry (sec) here in Charente Maritime, France, we haven't had any rain for months, apart from (hormis) a shower or two. Proof: my husband takes note every time he mows the lawn (tond la pelouse) and for the last ten years the eleventh time in the year (la onzième fois de l'année) was always in May. This year it was today August 20th!
Conclusions?
It hasn't been hot (il n'a pas fait chaud), only a few days up to 30°. A strange summer.
Well at least it's better than in the south of England where it's been raining all the time (tout le temps). But, they have beautiful gardens there, flowers and vegetables... You can't have everything. (On ne peut pas tout avoir).

SUMMER
By carolweb on Sunday, August 1 2010,
This is a typical August photo, and it's the first of August today. This conjures up memories of hot sunny days, swimming, reading under a parasol, breakfast in the garden, barbecues, salads, ice creams......

Summer today
By carolweb on Sunday, April 18 2010,
The weather was beautiful today, hot and sunny with no cold wind like the other days.
The swimming pool in the garden is now open after 6 months under a green cover. The water is clean, clear and blue.
Fortunately I didn't find anything like this in it!
It looks like a jellyfish, doesn't it? It's rust and scratches on a blue skip - my second one.
Now I have put the summer cover on the pool and I'm waiting for it to heat up: today the water was only 18°, a bit cool for a swim!
After 14 days of entries in this blog, there will be no more for a week because I'm going to Paris. Instead of rusty skips and tractors the photos will be completely different when I come back. Instead of the fields (champs) and woods (bois) I will be surrounded by buildings, traffic and people. I can tell you the first photo will be of the Eiffel Tower, I love it, it's amazing and I always go to see it when I go to Paris.
So, if all goes well, in spite of strikes (des grèves) and volcano ash (cendres), I'll be back on the blog on Monday 26th April. Bye for now.

Peach flower
By carolweb on Friday, April 16 2010,
A little softness after all these hard angles and corners; it's a long time since I uploaded a flower, so here is a peach flower growing in my garden:
I have 6 peach trees, I hope the flowers will develop into peaches then in July I'll be able to make peach jam (confiture). Last year I made some and it was delicious; instead of writing "Peach Jam" on the label I wrote "Summer in a Jar", because that's what it looks and tastes like.
