While in Paris we visited Victor Hugo's house in Place des Vosges. It was dark and not really interesting. Here is a photo of his writing desk, he wrote standing up (debout)! How strange, especially as he was a big heavy man.

He had a desk like this in Guernsey at the top (en haut) of his three storey (trois étages) house under a glass veranda. There is a beautiful view over the harbour and the sea, and on a clear day he could see the coast of France.
His house in Guernsey, where he was exiled) is just the opposite: fascinating. He covered the walls with panels of carved wooden chests (des coffres en bois sculptés) or rows of decorated plates (des assiettes), even on the ceiling (le plafond)!

As a complete change this is a photo at a pavement café in France with the sky and clouds reflected in the table top.

A cup of tea is very expensive, between 3.50 and 4.50 euros! Just for a sachet of tea and hot water! If you're lucky (si vous avez de la chance) you can have 2 cupfulls in your teapot (théière).
